How Can I Relieve Denture
Pain (Full & Partial Dentures)?
number one cause of denture pain is ill-fitting or loose dentures. This tends
to happen over time as the jawbone changes shape and shrinks. Also, when you
first get dentures, it takes the muscles in the mouth a little while to get
used to holding the dentures in place. It is not unusual to have minor
irritation and soreness as you become accustomed to wearing dentures.
Improper Fitting Dentures or New Dentures can
Dentures have a base, generally made of acrylic resin, which
sits on top of the existing gum line. If you wear dentures, your soft tissues
are very sensitive and if the denture does not fit properly, it will move while
eating and speaking, rubbing against the gums and this hurts. If a permanent
denture is placed before the gums and jaw have fully healed, typically 8-12
weeks, it will likely becomes loose and need adjustment as the swelling dissipates.

When teeth are removed, the underlying bone will begin to
shrink and the gums will alter their shape. Most dentures will need some
adjustment as the mouth changes, same situation as for the previous statement.
